Financial Aid Process at OU after filing FAFSA
This web page explains the financial aid process at OU after completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
For newly admitted students:
- Be sure to activate your OU email account after you are admitted at
exchange.ou.edu.
- Get your 9 digit Sooner ID number at account.ou.edu if you do not have
your Sooner ID card yet. You must have this number when contacting Financial Aid Services.
For all students:
- Verify you released your FAFSA to OU.
OU’s Title IV Code is 003184 for the FAFSA.
- OU Financial Aid Services will normally receive your FAFSA results (Student Aid Report or SAR) 3-5 working days after completion or corrections are made.
To check your financial aid status at OU:
- Financial Aid Services sends most notifications to the students' OU email account. This includes requests for
Missing Information (Document Status) and the
Awards (OU-FAN) or Financial Aid Notification.
- Check your OU email often. We do not recommend forwarding your OU email to another email provider, as you could lose out on important information or awards.
- Some information is mailed, so keep your address updated at all times using oZONE.
- Go to oZONE to check the status of your financial aid application. Go to the Money tab and go to the
My Financial Aid links.
- Submit any Missing Information immediately.
- Accept, reduce or decline aid offered on the Awards (OU-FAN) and submit online.
- Check your Financial Aid Academic Progress. You must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards to be eligible for financial aid. Type SAP in the Ask the Sooners search for more information.
- Additional documentation is needed for some types of aid such as loans. READ all the information in the OU-FAN tabs. Then go back to the
Missing Information link after accepting awards for additional required documents. Complete and submit all the information required.
- Review all the links and information included with the OU-FAN. This will include your rights and responsibilities as a financial aid recipient.
Failure to review this information will not waive the requirements.
- Use Ask the Sooners to find answers to your most frequently asked questions about financial aid, billing and payments, online enrollment, and transcripts.
- Do not share your login and passwords with anyone!
