Financial Aid Application - FAFSA

Welcome to OU's financial aid information page. This page will help guide you in applying for financial aid at The Univeristy of Oklahoma. Follow the steps below to apply for aid online using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA application is used to apply for nearly all types of financial aid including federal, state and college aid. The purpose of the FAFSA is to determine the families' ability to pay for college according to a federal calculation. The result is called the Effective Family Contribution (EFC). This figure is used by the financial aid office to determine how much and what types of aid you may be awarded.

Incoming and transfer students should also check out additional OU scholarships by visiting go2.ou.edu. Review the Important Links on the left side of this page starting with Scholarships to learn about the financial aid opportunities at OU. in addition, be sure to follow OU Financial Aid Services recommended deadlines!

For a comprehensive resource on student financial aid review the following publication from the U.S. Department of Education, Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid available in both English and Spanish.

Financial Aid Checklist
  1. Obtain a U.S. Department of Education PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. The student and at least one parent of a dependent undergraduate student will need a PIN. The PIN allows you to file the FAFSA online, serves as your electronic signature and to access your federal loan history. DO NOT share this PIN with anyone!

  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Filing the FAFSA is FREE!

Step by step instructions are available on the FAFSA website including online help and contact information. The Federal Student Aid Information Center has extended hours and may be reached by phone at 1.800.4.FED.AID, by email or by using live help within their website. Information and complete instructions are provided to guide you through the process, including what forms and information you will need before, during and after filing the FAFSA. Be sure to include OU's Title IV School Code 003184 and your intended housing plans for OU when completing the FAFSA!

  3. Review the Student Aid Report

After completing the FAFSA, an email is sent by Federal Student Aid to the student at the email address provided. This email includes a link to the Student Aid Report. The SAR includes instructions to review the information carefully and make any corrections necessary. If tax information was originally estimated, a request is sent by Federal Student Aid in mid-April to update your FAFSA information.
The FAFSA information will be sent to OU Financial Aid Services for review. Financial Aid Services typically receives this information up to 3-5 working days after you receive your SAR.
